A symbol, you see
Powerful and mystifying to me
People yearning for a day long since past
When sacrifices were the norm, yet didn’t last
With prayer since supplanting slaughter
And somehow a son having greater rights than a daughter
To identify as part of holy community
Which somehow causes such great disunity
Nothing but trouble waits if we dictate to others how they must pray
To even consider such suggests we’ve lost our way
The Divine does not in a single location reside
That spark, that light, can be found inside
Each person who visits this external barrier wall
That symbol of ancient kingdoms that repeatedly did fall
Jerusalem of Gold, you’re not about stones
Stacked on top of each other, emitting “wailing” tones
To be a free nation in our homeland is the ultimate goal
Struggling with the Divine, the undercurrent of Israel’s soul
Let the Kotel as a symbol unite and inspire
Our fear of each other and the intolerance of our differences, forever retire
